usbRecognized was created with a single mission: to make hardware testing accessible to everyone, everywhere, without any barriers. No downloads, no installations, no account registrations, no fees — just open your browser and start testing.

We believe that diagnosing hardware issues should not require downloading sketchy .exe files from unknown sources or paying for expensive diagnostic software. Modern web browsers have powerful APIs that can communicate directly with your hardware, and we harness these technologies to provide professional-grade diagnostics for free.

The site is statically generated (SSG) for maximum performance and SEO. All interactive components are hydrated as React islands only where needed, keeping the initial page load fast.

The Story Behind the Name

The name "usbRecognized" comes from the USB device enumeration process. When you connect a USB device to your computer, the operating system sends a recognition signal — if successful, the device is "recognized" and ready to use. Our platform extends this concept: we help you verify that ALL your devices — not just USB — are properly recognized and functioning.

The name also reflects our origins. We started with a simple USB device scanner and expanded into a comprehensive hardware testing platform. Today, we cover input devices, displays, audio, cameras, USB, and system information — with more tools in development.

How Our Tools Diagnose Hardware

Each tool on usbRecognized does more than a simple pass/fail check. Here is what each tool actually measures and what the results tell you:

• Keyboard Tester: Detects chattering switches (double registrations from a single press), tests NKRO (N-key rollover) to verify how many simultaneous keys your board can handle, identifies ghosting (phantom key presses from matrix wiring without diode isolation), and logs every keydown/keyup event for inspection. • Mouse Tester: Measures CPS (clicks per second) to verify switch reliability, detects double-click issues where a single press registers twice, tests all buttons including side buttons and middle click, and verifies scroll wheel functionality. • Refresh Rate Test: Counts actual animation frames via requestAnimationFrame to verify your monitor is running at its advertised refresh rate (60Hz, 144Hz, 240Hz, etc.) rather than falling back to a lower mode after a driver update or cable issue. • Dead Pixel Test: Displays full-screen solid colors (red, green, blue, white, black) so you can visually identify stuck pixels (locked to one color), dead pixels (permanently black), and bright pixels (permanently lit) against uniform backgrounds. • Color Test: Renders gradients and color patterns to check for color banding, gamut coverage, and color uniformity across the panel. • Screen Bleeding Test: Displays a full-screen black image in a dark environment to reveal backlight bleeding (light leaking from edges) and IPS glow (corner light leakage characteristic of IPS panels). • Webcam Test: Captures your camera feed and reports the actual resolution, frame rate, and whether the browser negotiated constraints were met, plus checks mirror and flip functionality. • Microphone Test: Visualizes your audio input waveform, reports volume levels, and detects if the browser is receiving audio from the correct input device. • Speaker Test: Plays tones through left, right, and both channels to verify stereo output and identify channel swapping or dead speakers. • USB Device Info: Enumerates connected USB devices using WebUSB API, displaying vendor ID (VID), product ID (PID), and device class information for device identification. • Printer Test: Generates targeted test patterns including 21-step grayscale gradients, fine lines at various spacings, and CMY registration marks to diagnose print quality issues that the built-in self-test page cannot reveal. • Browser Info: Reports your browser name, version, operating system, screen resolution, viewport size, and supported Web APIs to help troubleshoot compatibility issues. • Screen Resolution: Displays your current screen resolution, pixel density, aspect ratio, and viewport dimensions to verify your display is configured correctly.

Each tool page includes a detailed FAQ section that explains what the diagnostic data means, what causes common failures, and what steps to take if a test reveals a problem. We link to authoritative sources including ISO standards, manufacturer documentation, and technical specifications — not just marketing claims.

Roadmap

We are continuously improving usbRecognized. Here is what is on our roadmap:

• Phase 1 (Complete): Homepage with Quick Device Check, keyboard tester with NKRO and ghosting detection, content-rich Coming Soon pages for all planned tools • Phase 2 (In Progress): Mouse test (CPS + double-click), webcam test, and microphone test are now live.
