Privacy Policy

Your privacy is not a feature — it is the foundation of usbRecognized.

Last updated: July 4, 2026

1. Our Core Principle: Zero Data Collection

usbRecognized is built on a simple principle: your hardware testing data should never leave your device. All tests on this website — keyboard tests, mouse tests, webcam tests, microphone tests, USB diagnostics, and the Quick Device Check — run entirely in your browser using secure Web APIs. We do not collect, store, transmit, or sell any data generated during your testing sessions.

When you press a key on our keyboard tester, that event is processed locally by your browser's JavaScript engine. When you test your webcam, the video feed stays in your browser tab. When you scan USB devices, the device information is displayed only to you. None of this data is sent to any server.

2. Information We Do Not Collect

To be absolutely clear, the following data types are NEVER collected, stored, or transmitted by usbRecognized:

• Keystrokes, key codes, and keyboard input patterns • Mouse clicks, movement coordinates, and CPS data • Webcam video feeds, images, or recordings • Microphone audio data or recordings • USB device information (VID, PID, serial numbers) • Screen resolution, refresh rate, or display characteristics • Battery level or charging status • Gamepad input data • Browser fingerprinting data • IP addresses (Google Analytics may collect anonymized IP data for aggregate statistics; we do not log IP addresses ourselves) • Any personally identifiable information (PII)

You can verify this yourself by opening your browser's Developer Tools (F12) → Network tab. While using any of our tools, you will not see any outgoing requests containing your testing data.

3. Cookies and Local Storage

usbRecognized uses minimal local storage for essential functionality only:

• Theme preference (dark/light mode) — stored in localStorage so your theme choice persists across visits. • Language preference — stored in localStorage to remember your preferred language. • We do not set tracking or advertising cookies ourselves. Third-party services like Google Analytics and Google AdSense may set their own cookies, as described below.

We use Google Analytics to collect aggregate, anonymous usage statistics (such as page views, session duration, and general traffic patterns) to help us improve the website. Google Analytics may set cookies and collect anonymized IP data. However, Google Analytics does NOT collect any hardware testing data — your keystrokes, mouse clicks, webcam feeds, microphone audio, and USB device information are never transmitted to any server. You can opt out of Google Analytics by using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on or by disabling third-party cookies in your browser settings.

4. Third-Party Advertising

usbRecognized is supported by advertising to keep all tools free. We may display ads through Google AdSense on some pages. AdSense may use cookies and similar technologies to serve relevant ads.

However, ads are NOT displayed on active testing interfaces (such as the keyboard test area or webcam preview). Ads only appear in designated ad slots between content sections. Third-party ad providers have their own privacy policies, and we encourage you to review them. For more information about how Google uses data from sites or apps that use Google services, visit https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. To learn about Google's privacy practices, see https://policies.google.com/privacy. You can opt out of personalized advertising through your browser settings or the ad network's opt-out mechanisms.

5. Browser Permissions

Some of our tools require browser permissions to function:

• Camera permission (for Webcam Test) — requested only when you actively use the tool, revocable at any time. • Microphone permission (for Microphone Test) — requested only when you actively use the tool, revocable at any time. • USB device access (for USB Test, via WebUSB API) — requires explicit user consent for each device. • Bluetooth access (for Bluetooth device testing, via Web Bluetooth API) — requires explicit user consent.

All permissions are requested on a per-session basis. You can revoke any permission at any time through your browser's site settings. Granting these permissions does not result in any data being sent to our servers — the data is processed locally in your browser only.

6. WebUSB and Device Security

Our USB Test tool uses the WebUSB API, which allows web pages to communicate with USB devices. This API requires explicit user consent — you must click a button and select a specific device before any communication occurs. usbRecognized cannot access USB devices without your active participation.

The WebUSB API operates within the browser's security sandbox. Device information (Vendor ID, Product ID, manufacturer name) is displayed to you but is not transmitted to any server. We do not claim, control, or claim ownership of any USB device you connect or test.

7. Children's Privacy

usbRecognized is a hardware testing tool intended for general use. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children under 13 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction). Since we do not collect any personal information from any user, our service is inherently safe for all ages. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us through any third-party service (such as an ad network), please contact us and we will assist in removal.

8. Your Rights (GDPR & CCPA)

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), you have certain rights regarding your personal data. However, since usbRecognized does not collect, store, or process any personal data, most of these rights are inherently satisfied.

If you have any questions or concerns about your privacy while using usbRecognized, please contact us at hi@usbrecognized.com. We are committed to addressing any privacy concerns promptly and transparently.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last Modified" date. Since we do not collect data, significant changes to our privacy practices are unlikely. However, we recommend reviewing this page periodically.
